Primary & Essential The Gospel
The primary responsibility of biblical counseling is to lead others to faith in the Gospel and to demonstrate the Gospel as the soul means of meaningful change. While many begin as believers, it is still necessary to ground everything in consideration of God’s work through Christ on their behalf.
Primary & Essential | Sanctification
Faith in Christ makes mankind a channel of grace (Phil 2:13-14). “Greater works than these” are possible because God is enabling us by grace, through faith, to work out our salvation with fear and trembling.
Secondary & Non-essential | Biological Considerations
While the biblical counselor is concerned for the biological aspects of their client, the value of these lie outside of the Gospel and Sanctification and would be considered helpful but not necessary for godliness.
Methods of treating the body and mind vary i.e., medicine, grounding techniques, and various therapies are not necessary for godliness or sanctification, but can help the body calm and focus so truth can be processed more easily.
